WestLight Energy is a not-for-profit provider of electricity, and our rates are typically lower than PG&E’s. Plus, we source from clean energy sources.
New Rate Update
WestLight Energy recently updated its electricity generation rates to provide a 5% discount compared to PG&E’s generation rates, after maintaining an average 10% discount for most of the last year. Customers can explore rate explainers for San Mateo County and Los Banos, including a short video that breaks down what’s changing and how generation charges appear on your bill.
The Difference Between WestLight Energy and PG&E
WestLight Energy purchases clean electricity. PG&E delivers it to you.
Being a WestLight Energy customer means you get cheaper, cleaner electricity. We purchase electricity from clean, renewable sources at more affordable rates. Then PG&E delivers it to your home or business using its poles and wires.
To keep things simple, you get one bill from PG&E with our charges for electricity generation and PG&E’s charges for delivery. There is no additional cost for getting your electricity from us. In fact, we do it for less than PG&E—and it’s cleaner!

Why is WestLight Energy on my PG&E bill?
Simple: WestLight Energy sources your electricity. PG&E delivers it. Think of it like ordering a meal from your favorite restaurant (that’s us, WestLight Energy). Then a food delivery service delivers your meal to your door (that’s PG&E). PG&E also hands you the bill with our electricity charges included. PG&E doesn’t charge you for electricity, but they do add in all of their other fees and taxes.

Get paid more for your excess solar
We get it—solar billing can be confusing. But here’s the bottom line: you earn more with us than with PG&E. In fact, you earn $1–$2 extra per month for your excess solar power. Plus, our monthly true-up means you see credits and charges sooner, and our electricity rates are lower when you do need to use the grid. Now, that’s a win-win.

1. Choose the right PG&E delivery rate plan
In addition to the core electricity service option you choose from WestLight Energy, you can choose a PG&E delivery rate option that makes the most sense for your lifestyle and minimizes your energy costs. If you recall our comparison to getting your favorite meal (that’s WestLight Energy electricity) delivered to your door by a food delivery service (that’s PG&E’s poles and wires), you can choose the most effective rate option for PG&E to deliver our electricity to you.
