The Schools Building Electrification (SchoolsBE) program will help local public schools convert methane gas to clean, efficient electricity in their buildings with incentives of up to $600,000 per district and loans of up to $600,000 per district.

How to fund your building electrification

The SchoolsBE program includes two funding components:

Incentive levels & limits

Projects will be funded on a first-come, first-served basis, and must meet with the following criteria:

  • Project will verifiably reduce building fossil fuel use (typically methane gas savings)
  • The maximum amount of incentive support available for each district is $600,000
  • Must meet minimum 25% match requirements as outlined below
  • Must reduce fossil fuel use for the proposed systems by at least 75%

Loan Availability

Loan levels, terms, & limits

Loans will be available to project awardees as follows:

  • Total financing may not exceed the net cost of the project (total cost, less other funding and WestLight Energy incentives, less 25% cost share requirement)
  • 5-year maximum loan term
  • 1% interest rate
  • Minimum loan size of $50,000 per district
  • Maximum limit of $600,000 per district
  • Payments will be made semi-annually to WestLight Energy
  • Must meet minimum 25% match requirements as outlined below

Loan Requirements

Minimum 25% matched by non-WestLight Energy funds

At least 25% of the project total cost must be covered by non-WestLight Energy funds, such as existing school capital improvement budgets, state or federal grants, or donations.

Notification of award will be delivered to applicant within 4 weeks of project submission.
