Champion Spotlight: Janet Creech
When I retired from teaching high school science in 2013, I wanted to spend my time doing something important. At the time, climate change was my biggest worry. I attended various local meetings and discovered a group of like-minded people who wanted to do in San Mateo County what Marin Clean Energy had successfully done in Marin.
We formed a group called San Mateo Community Choice and shared our vision with the elected representatives of cities and county, both privately and at public meetings, to help them understand that we could have 100% carbon free electricity here in San Mateo County.
After the creation of WestLight Energy, I served 2 terms on the Community Advisory Committee.
I also took part in PCE community programs that helped me afford a heat pump water heater and a battery to back up my solar panels. I share my stored electricity with the grid during peak demand.
