WestLight Energy vs. PG&E: Why do we both show up on your bill?

WestLight Energy generates electricity; PG&E delivers it

As your not-for-profit source for electricity, we provide you with lower-cost, clean electricity from renewable sources. Then, PG&E delivers it to you through their wires. Think of ordering takeout from your favorite restaurant (that’s WestLight Energy) and having a food delivery app (that's PG&E) deliver it to you. That’s basically how it works. PG&E also sends you the bill, which includes their delivery costs, as well as the electricity you get from us—all in one convenient bill.

How is this possible? Because we’re a not-for-profit public agency. Our job isn’t to make a profit: it’s to provide you with electricity that is as affordable as possible. And as a big bonus, it’s clean electricity—at no additional cost.

Where to look on your bill to see how we keep your energy costs at a minimum

On the bill you get from PG&E each month, there is one key line item among the list of PG&E delivery charges:

“WestLight Energy Electric Generation Charges”

This is the cost for the cheaper electricity you get from us. Compared to what PG&E bills for electricity, WestLight Energy electricity costs 5%-11% less per month.

Electric Delivery Charges

What is the “Electric Delivery” charge on my bill?

This line item charge is the cost from PG&E to deliver your electricity to you and to maintain their power lines and infrastructure.

PG&E charges its own customers and WestLight Energy customers the same rate for delivery charges.
